“With the 1st pick in the 2018-19 Paula Dean Fantasy Football draft, Grant Ferrell selects… Todd Gurley, Running Back from the Los Angeles Rams!!”
The picks ticked by as I sat nervously in my apartment waiting for my first round pick (#8) to come around. Gurley went 1, Le’Veon went 2, Zeke 3, DJ 4, AB 5, Kamara at 6… And on the clock was Park Seaman. Penn State and New York Giants Number 2 overall pick, Saquan Barkley was sitting at the top of the undrafted board. Followed by DeAndre Hopkins of the Houston Texans, Kareem Hunt of the KC Chiefs, and then Odell Beckham Jr. rounded out the top 10. Park sat in the draft lobby, allowing his 2:00 of pick time to dwindle down to ten seconds… 10… 9… 8… 7… 6… 5… 4……. Saquan Barkley was the pick.
There was not much surprise between us all. Saquan was the last of the top 5/6 running backs before a tier drop off with the likes of Hunt, Fournette, Dalvin Cook, and Melvin Gordon. It left me when a pretty clear and obvious decision. Last years #1 ranked fantasy wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins.
